Visual Kinesthetic Training
Every elite Olympic athlete is being trained using visual kinesthetic training, or restated, by using frame by frame video analysis to improve their technique. Skiers, swimmers, track stars and others have used video analysis to improve their performance for decades. At Abbotsford Training Rink (ATR) we have video cameras incorporated in both our ice arena and Hockey Performance Centre (HPC Skatemill) in order to better train the elite hockey player. The key to interpret the video with extremely well trained personnel on how to improve skating efficiency while puck handling and shooting. All of our trainer here have been taught by NHL level instructors on how to maximize the use of the cameras to achieve better results, faster. We found that players who can see themselves skate or shoot make necessary adjustments much quicker than conventional means.

The Hockey Performance Centre

At our facility we are proud to have the Dusan Hockey Performance Skatemill. Dusan Benicky is a renowned trainer who has worked with many NHL players. The skatemill is the world's most advanced training tool when used in conjunction with video analysis and professionally trained staff. This is way so many pros consult and train with Dusan Benicky every spring and summer. They know the value of training one on one maximizing their training experience. Every skater is unique, and every player requires a different approach to achieve their goals. HPC takes pride in tailoring individual training session to suit their students specific hockey needs.

Who Trains You?

At Abbotsford Training Rink, we have assembled some of the most advanced training personal in the Fraser Valley, Ralph Vos JR, Todd Geddes, Bernie Saywell, and David Kilduff have all played minor hockey at the elite level. All of our coaches can demonstrate high level drills at top speed and believe that teaching fundamentals first. Our instructors are supported by 6 video cameras throughout the rink, which gives the students immediate visual feedback, causing them to learn much quicker than conventional hockey schools. Our staff work hard to create a fun yet strict environment in order to foster a positive learning experience.

Pond Hockey: The Backbone of Training

One of the more distinctive elements of ATR is we encourage uninstructed pond hockey for kids. Players from initiation to bantam and all skill level can sign up for 3 on 3 pond hockey on the smaller indoor rink. Wayne Gretzy, Mario Lemieux, Peter Forsberg and Markus Naslund all attribute much of their success to the time they spent playing countless hours of hockey on outdoor ponds. They agree that the time spent on learning the game for one's self as an invaluable tool for becoming a better player. ATR also provides 3 on 3 leagues for adults looking to have some fun and get some exercise with their friends.

Incorporating Professional Core Strength Training

ATR also features a core training area/gym, where their professional kinesiologist puts players thru core workouts involving balance boards, swiss balls, medicine balls etc. Core strength and balance is important, because in hockey, everything is done on one leg, and the blade is 100 times smaller than the foot. All of our training programs are hockey specific, focusing on the muscle group used by hockey players the most; the core! Core strength is associated with everything from skating to body-checking to shooting! By adding this element to your training regimen, you will become a more complete hockey player by enhancing your strength in all areas of your game.
